In Cape Town, Wednesday 11th June 2008, Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) announced that it is going to undertake a major road, car park and bulk services infrastructure upgrade at Cape Point.

The upgrade will include the construction of a reservoir and sewage plant underneath the parking area at Cape Point. It will run in phases for five months and although disruptions will occur, tourism services will continue to operate. The road upgrade will be less disruptive as work is scheduled to take place between 16h45 to 08h00 and the road will be in use during the day.

Visitors will continue to have access to all facilities (ablutions, shops, restaurant and funicular) during construction.The path to the lighthouse will not be disrupted. There will be limited parking for a few buses at the Cape Point car park and the rest will be able to park along the road.

The end result will be a paved parking area for Cape Point and a reservoir that will enhance fire fighting capabilities as well as the supply of potable water to patrons. The Park regrets that traffic and people movement will be disrupted. Directional signage and personnel will redirect traffic during the construction period.

The project is scheduled to start during the third week of June 2008 and the plan is to complete it by the end of November 2008.
