Organisational Values
SANParks has adopted seven values that all employees must always aspire to reflect in their practices and behaviors. These values will, in short, be referred to as I-C-TRAIL, as in “I Can walk on the ethical TRAIL”.
Integrity – I behave honorably, even when no one is watching:
- I am truthful and authentic in all my engagements.
- I keep my commitments and promises made to others.
- I stand up for what is right and confront unethical behavior.
- I am trustworthy and protect the organization’s best interest.
- I am consistent in doing the right thing in all aspects pertaining to my job.
Collaboration – I collaborate with others by fostering open communication, embracing diverse perspectives, and working toward shared goals with trust and mutual respect:
- I share my ideas, concerns, and thoughts openly and honestly.
- I am open to different perspectives and willing to adjust my approach based on input from others.
- I focus on achieving shared goals and prioritize teamwork over individual accomplishments.
- I solicit feedback from others to identify areas for improvement.
- I work with others to find creative and effective solutions when problems arise.
Transparency – I am transparent in my actions, decisions, and communications:
- I keep others informed and share relevant information responsibly.
- I involve relevant role-players in decision making.
- I provide and accept honest and constructive feedback.
- I communicate my views and expectations timeously.
- I share learnings, successes, and failures.
Respect – I show due regard for the feelings, wishes, and rights of others:
- I treat others with courtesy, kindness, and professionalism.
- I express gratitude when others help me.
- I actively listen to what others say before expressing my viewpoint.
- I will never be abusive or tolerate others being abused.
- I treat everyone fairly and equally.
- I respect all individuals for their diverse culture, religion, beliefs, and backgrounds.
- I will not discourage or deny viewpoints from being shared even if I do not agree with them.
Accountability – I take responsibility for my own actions and work with others to get things done:
- I will be proactive rather than reactive and strive to solve problems and seek solutions.
- I am brave enough to have difficult conversations because I understand that positive.
- criticism builds relationships and allows for clear communication.
- I accept responsibility for my decisions, actions, and the results thereof.
- I admit to my errors instead of rushing to cover up mistakes.
- I ask for help when needed because I feel responsible for my own success.
- I appreciate and respect that I am one person within a team and take responsibility for my impact on the productivity of the team.
- I give my best in each situation at work.
Innovation – I find new and better ways of doing things:
- I do not resist change.
- I think independently.
- I listen to others’ ideas.
- I encourage others to practice ideas for better ways to execute our day-to-day tasks.
- I collaborate with others to develop and test strategies to create value, improve performance, and transform our organization.
Leadership – I inspire others to become their best selves:
- I am supportive and encouraging toward others.
- I inspire others through a spirit of excellence and professionalism.
- I acknowledge contributions and give credit where it is due.
- I empower and develop others in their daily tasks.
- I provide guidance, direction, and share knowledge in my area of responsibility.
- I will actively contribute to the achievement of the organization’s vision, mission, and objectives.
