Media Release: Free entry for South African National Parks Week

It’s that time of the year again where South African National Parks (SANParks) offers free entry to all South African citizens into almost all 19 South African National Parks across the country for one week from the Monday, 14th to Saturday, 19th September 2015. The only exceptions this year are Agulhas National Park, Namaqua National Park, Boulders Beach Penguin Colony and the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway in Table Mountain National Park. Certain parks have extended the week into the weekend, for Individual Park dates please visit: www.sanparks.org/about/events/parks_week/default.php

Flower season at West Coast National Park promises a landslide of colour

The flower season at West Coast National Park takes place during the months of August and September. During this time, visitors flock in their numbers to the Postberg Section of the park which serves as a highlight to their visit especially as this section of the park is only open to the public during these two months of the year.

Celebrate WWF's Earth Hour with SANParks

As Earth Hour 2013 draws closer, South African National Parks (SANParks) Cape Region invites you to join three National Parks celebrating the hour known for the switching off of lights. Earth Hour is a worldwide event organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and held towards the end of March annually, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.

Media Release: Postberg flowers are blooming beautiful

Today marks the start of West Coast National Park’s official Flower Season, which runs from 1 August to 30 September every year. During this time the Postberg section of the Park (which is closed to visitors throughout the rest of the year) is open to the public, who come in their thousands to see the veld covered in carpets of colour.

Kruger orientation course presented at WCNP

Christmas Carols at WCNP

The West Coast National Park’s Honorary Rangers presented a Christmas celebration late last year on 16 December in the wedding marquee at Geelbek. “Christmas Carols On The Lawn” commenced at 17h30 and all the locals who joined the West Coast Honorary Rangers for this picnic celebration were allowed into the park free of charge from 16h30 with their picnic baskets and blankets.

The Pelican Challenge on the West Coast

The near-threatened Great White Pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus) is arguably the largest fish-eating seabird endemic to the South African West Coast. It can be recognised in flight by its huge wingspan, S-shaped neck, long beak, its penchant for soaring in thermals and for flying in formation. Some call it the Jumbo Jet of the birds.

West Coast NP Cycle Tour 2007

The annual West Coast National Park Cycle Tour, organised by the West Coast Honorary Rangers, will take place on the 15th December 2007. The park is closed to vehicles for the race, which means no traffic, no pollution-just you and your bike at one with nature. You can choose to complete a fun ride of 30kms or the full ride of 80 kms.

Wild Card Sales Interrupted at West Coast NP

Due to a problem with Infinity’s system, West Coast National Park cannot at present process wild card sales or renewals. Infinity is working on the problem. You can still use your valid wild card to visit the park.

Bakoor Hiking Trail Opens at West Coast NP

In order to provide a fuller wilderness experience for our valued visitors, and to complement our two new off-road cycle trails, a new hiking trail was opened by the West Coast National Park manager, Xola Mkefe, just in time for this year’s flower season.

Newsflash-Delay in Opening of Postberg

Due to severe flooding earlier this week, we have had to keep Postberg closed until Wednesday 01 August while we regrade the washed away roads.
