The South African National Park (SANParks) is excited to announce the upcoming 20th annual SA National Parks Week. From Monday, 22 September 2025 to Sunday, 28 September 2025, SANParks will open its doors for a week of free access to its breathtaking national parks, inviting South Africans to revel in the wonders of their own natural heritage. This exclusive offering will encompass all of SANParks’ managed national parks.

In the Cape Region National Parks, Table Mountain, Agulhas, Bontebok, and Tankwa Karoo National Parks will extend the free access period until Sunday, 28 September 2025. West Coast National Park will only participate in SA National Parks Week until Friday, 26 September 2025.

The Boulders Penguin Colony and the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway in Table Mountain National Park, as well as the iconic Cape Agulhas Lighthouse in Agulhas National Park, are excluded from the free access week.

Under the compelling theme of ‘Inclusive Conservation’, this campaign aims to provide an opportunity for South African residents with valid identification documents to spend time discovering the natural splendors of a national park of their choice, completely free of charge.

Things to do during SA National Parks Week in the Cape Region Parks:

Agulhas National Park – Explore the Southernmost Tip of Africa, boasting magnificent views, and take a walk along the shore to view a shipwreck along the Agulhas coastline. Immerse yourself in the history and beauty that this park has to offer.

Bontebok National Park – While it may be one of SANParks’ smaller parks, Bontebok National Park presents boundless opportunities. Observe the majestic Bontebok in its natural habitat, paddle along the serene waters of Breede River Dam, engage in fishing activities, and embark on unforgettable hiking trails.

Table Mountain National Park – Indulge in a uniquely South African experience with a braai (barbecue) at picturesque spots like Tokai Forest, Newlands, Silvermine, and Oudekraal. Uncover the history of the Cape of Good Hope, while exploring the interactive audio-visual exhibition that delves into Early Sapiens Behaviour situated at the Buffelsfontein Visitor Centre. Engage in thrilling hiking adventures with spectacular viewpoints and have a braai or swim to end your day.

Tankwa Karoo National Park – For those seeking tranquility and awe-inspiring landscapes, Tankwa Karoo National Park awaits. Discover its serene ambiance and traverse its scenic 4×4 routes, offering a journey into the heart of untamed beauty.

West Coast National Park – A mere two-hour drive from Cape Town, the West Coast National Park presents a remarkable flower season in the Postberg, Seeberg, and Mooimaak areas. Witness the spectacular bloom and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the West Coast. Stroll through the newly developed Bakoor Trail starting at the Langebaan gate and cool off at the lagoon or bring your family along for a braai. West Coast is home to over 250 bird species offering a variety to enthusiasts.

Entry during National Parks Week applies strictly to day visits and excludes accommodation, commercial activities, and other fee-based facilities.

Through initiatives such as this, SANParks reaffirms its commitment to connecting people with nature, fostering environmental stewardship, and ensuring that national parks remain spaces for all South Africans to enjoy.
