Update: Fires in Table Mountain National Park area

06:50 Monday 6 March: The fire that started above Boyes Drive at 21:00 last night has been contained by Table Mountain National Park and City of Cape Town firefighters but helicopters will be dispatched this morning to water bomb the area in order to dampen the area. Crews will also remain on site throughout the day to guard against flare-ups.

The area burned consisted primarily of old fynbos.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Table Mountain National Park asks the public to exercise caution as extremely hot and dry temperatures are predicted for today. Fires should be reported to the emergency control centre on 021 957 4700.
