The Garden Route National Park reaffirmed its commitment to employee wellness and community health by hosting its annual Cancer Awareness Walk on Thursday, 22 October 2026. The event brought together employees and community members to raise awareness about cancer, promote early detection and show support for those affected by the disease.
Despite unfavourable weather conditions, more than 150 employees and community members participated in the 4.5-kilometre walk, which started at Wilderness Marine Drive and concluded at Salinas Beach.
The initiative was supported by the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and Old Mutual. Bethesda Medical and Relief Services also contributed to the event by providing a mobile clinic where participants could access free health tests and screening services for various health conditions.
The annual walk highlighted the importance of regular health screenings, early detection, and healthy lifestyle choices in promoting overall well-being. It also provided an opportunity for employees and community members to stand together in support of those affected by cancer and to encourage greater awareness of the disease.
SANParks continues to promote a culture of wellness, encourage preventive healthcare and strengthen community participation in health awareness efforts.
