SANParks notes the ruling by the Mpumalanga High Court on a 2019 leopard attack involving a toddler

South African National Parks (SANParks) notes the Mpumalanga High Court’s ruling related to a regrettable incident in 2019 when a 30-month-old toddler lost his life following an attack by a leopard at Malelane Technical Services Living Quarters in the Kruger National Park.

As a state entity, we are committed to comply with findings of our courts. In addition, we are also studying the court’s judgement for a more in-depth understanding of the findings as set out by Acting Judge Zodwa Gumede.

At the time of the incident, rangers went out on a search for the leopard which resulted in two leopards in the immediate vicinity of the scene getting destroyed. Considering the sensitivity of the issue as well as out of respect of the family, SANParks will not be providing further commentary on the matter.
