The full moon lit up the piled dolerite columns and plains of Camdeboo beyond on a wonderfully clear night as people gathered around the viewpoints at the Valley.
A total of 133 people took advantage of the free entry concession provided by SANParks. Of those, about 60 people enjoyed a bring-and-braai meal while taking in the scenery.
Towards the end of the evening, the wind picked up slightly and the air chilled but the full moon was large and beautiful when viewed from the Ribbokberg picnic site.
SANParks introduced the event in Camdeboo National Park to allow locals a special concession to experience and enjoy the natural heritage which belongs to them. It is hoped that this will encourage a renewed sense of ownership and custodianship amongst Graaff-Reineters.
The event was enjoyed by all and many requests were made for a repeat of the event in the future. SANParks will announce the date for the next “Valley by Moonlight” event in due course.
