Garden Route National Park Celebrates Excellence at Annual Achievement Awards

The Garden Route National Park celebrated its employees’ dedication, commitment, and outstanding contributions at its annual Achievement Awards, held at Villa Castollini in Brenton-on-Sea, Knysna, on Friday, 30 October 2026.

The awards recognised employees from the park’s three sections, Wilderness, Knysna, and Tsitsikamma. A total of 45 trophies and certificates were presented to deserving recipients across nine categories, acknowledging their contributions to the park’s operations, conservation mandate and service delivery.

The evening also recognised stakeholders who supported the park’s community development, tourism and conservation initiatives during the 2025/2026 financial year. Their contributions included donating school shoes and uniforms to children living near the park, promoting entrepreneurship through hiking trails, and protecting the unique biodiversity of the Knysna fynbos. Certificates of appreciation were presented to Norman Mothlake, Burton Mlandu, and Johan and Dirkie Labuschagne in recognition of their contributions and support.

One of the highlights of the evening was also the recognition of two Lifetime Contribution Award recipients, whose service to South African National Parks (SANParks) spans more than four decades. Their dedication and years of service reflect a lasting commitment to conservation and the protection of South Africa’s natural heritage. Joseph Geduld was recognised for 45 years of dedicated service, while Roland Kivetts was honoured for 43 years of service to SANParks.

The annual Achievement Awards serve as an important platform to celebrate employee excellence, acknowledge long-standing service and strengthen the culture of appreciation within the Garden Route National Park. The event also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the park and its stakeholders in advancing conservation and supporting the communities it serves.
