Media Release: KNP Concession Lodge Burns Down

Mpanamana Concession staff members worked swiftly to move guests to safety as the main building of Shawu Lodge in the Mpanamana Concession in the Southern Region of the KNP burnt down early this morning.

Reacting to the sound of an exploding gas bottle at around 05:00, lodge staff proceeded to wet the thatch of adjacent buildings to prevent the fire from spreading after they had ensured the safety of all guests staying at the luxury lodge.

KNP Rangers have inspected the premises and are satisfied that the guests are safe and that the fire will not ignite again.

The fire destroyed the reception area, the kitchen, the dining area, the wooden deck and the swimming pool area of the lodge.

Guests have been moved to Hlangani Mountain Lodge, also within the Mpanamana Concession.

Mpanamana Concession owners have contacted their insurance company, which is investigating the incident.
