Camdeboo National Park”s fun holiday programmes have become such a hit with both parents and youngsters alike, that this December”s programme was fully booked weeks before it even started.

The first week of the school holidays, from 28 November to 2 December, had the Park”s People and Conservation staff members entertain about 35 children at their Environmental Education Centre daily. As always, each day of the week focused on a specific fun, yet educational theme.

On Exploring Tree Monday, the youngsters learned all about the different trees found around the EE Centre, did tree identification, made a tree out of buttons and played some fun games.

Busy Bee Tuesday saw the children learning all about bees, playing a game to find the buzzing bee and making egg carton bees.

Day three was Recycling Wednesday, where the children learned about pollution and recycling, made a bird feeder, remixed a recycling song and played a plastic game which taught them about the different types of plastics. The children learned all about saving water on Saving Water Thursday. They even got a surprise visit from the municipality”s water mascot, Sponsie, who shared some songs with them about water, followed by a treasure hunt in the swimming pool.

Funny Friday was filled with fun games such as the Chick passing race, Monkey vine, Tug of war and many more. This was followed by a prize giving ceremony, and the kids got to enjoy cake to celebrate the official start of the holidays with.
