Camdeboo National Park’s Environmental Education Centre is becoming more and more popular not only among school groups from Graaff-Reinet and surrounding towns, but with other groups in general.

Booking preference is given to school and environmental education groups but others may also book, such as for family reunions, overnight accommodation for large travelling groups and large groups of friends wanting to meet up and stay in one venue.

The centre sleeps up to 48 learners in three dormitory-style units with ablution blocks. A well-equipped kitchen and lecture hall with audio-visual aids and displays is also available. Up to four educators can be accommodated in a separate building with an en-suite bathroom. The facility is used extensively during the Park’s school holiday programmes and was the base from which the SANParks, Pick ‘n Pay and Departments of Education and Environmental Affair’s Kids in Parks programmes were run.

Camdeboo’s People and Conservation staff members offer both day and multiple-day/overnight programmes for school and other environmental interest groups. Alternatively, educators themselves may want to use the centre as a base from which they themselves present their programmes. The area directly around the centre provides the perfect outdoor classroom for practical, fun learning, while a short drive through the Park to the world-famous Valley of Desolation can be included.
