Fire Above Kloofnek Corner – Table Mountain National Park
The Table Mountain National Park Fire Management Team is currently responding to a vegetation fire reported above Kloofnek Corner, Tafelberg Road.
Ground firefighting crews have been deployed to the scene, together with the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service and three Volunteer Wildfire Services crews assisting with fire suppression efforts.
As a precaution, evacuations are currently underway at the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Lower Station. SANParks rangers and traffic officials have been deployed to assist with the safe evacuation of visitors and to manage traffic in the area.
Members of the public are urged to follow all instructions issued by officials on site.
The Contour Path and surrounding trails between Kloofnek and the Lower Cableway Station are closed until further notice. Visitors are also requested to avoid Tafelberg Road while emergency operations are underway.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
SANParks will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
