The Cape Peninsula Baboon Management Joint Task Team (CPBMJTT) consisting of representatives from SANParks, CapeNature, and the City of Cape Town, will host engagements with communities from baboon-affected areas on the Southern Peninsula as of next week.
The Cape Peninsula Baboon Strategic Management Plan (CPBSMP) provides the framework for the sustainable management of the Cape Peninsula’s Chacma baboons and is to be implemented and elaborated upon with area-based solutions developed jointly with affected communities.
The intention of the community meetings is to engage and collaborate with residents on devising these area-based solutions and interventions.
At the meetings, the CPBMJTT will present information about:
Importantly, the respective communities are encouraged to prepare for these meetings by familiarising themselves with the CPBSMP and the Fencing Report that was published last year; and to also propose solutions and interventions suitable to their unique circumstances – these will be workshopped at the community meetings.
The meetings will be hosted in person, from 17:00 to 19:00.
