Practitioner: Labour Relations (PE Regional Office)

A position exists for a Practitioner: Labour Relations in the Human Capital Management Division, reporting to the Manager: Labour Relations based at the PE Regional Office. This position is being re-advertised. Previous applicants must re-apply.

Purpose of the Job

To defend cases at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), facilitate the resolution of disputes between employees and supervisors, co-ordinate grievances and disciplinary investigations, conduct training on labour relations issues in order to contribute to a sound labour relations climate.

In addition, the incumbent is expected to attend grievance and disciplinary hearings, render an advisory service to both management and employees, and attend to office administration, including attending to correspondence, taking minutes of meetings, co-ordinating meetings, workshops and events, maintaining a proper records management system, and administering the flow of information.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Human Resources Management (majoring in Labour Relations).
  • 3–4 years’ experience in Labour/Employee Relations.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in Labour Relations/Labour Law.
  • 5 years or more of Labour Relations/Employee Relations experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support relating to grievance resolution activities and processes.
  • Consult on the utilisation of the disciplinary and grievance procedures.
  • Quality assure investigation reports and charges.
  • Advise on disciplinary and grievance processes based on best practice, disciplinary and Grievance policies and SOPs.
  • Attend disciplinary and grievance hearings.
  • Attend and defend SANParks at CCMA conciliation and arbitration hearings.
  • Follow up on client enquiries, requests and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Advise clients about the status of issues or progress of disciplinary and grievance cases.
  • Monitor compliance with stipulated time frames in accordance with the Disciplinary and Grievance Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with collective agreements.
  • Provide advisory services based on best practice.
  • Capture and update all disciplinary and grievance actions on the appropriate HCM database.
  • Ensure the documentation and storage of all information.
  • Maintain clear communication and update clients on an ongoing continuous basis.
  • Co-ordinate and conduct in-house labour relations training.
  • Co-ordinate external government department training.
  • Research and advise on labour and employment relations matters.
  • Attend internal stakeholders’ meetings (management and shop steward meetings).
  • Be a team player.

Please Note

The successful candidate will be expected to stay outside the Parks, and the package is structured to incorporate a housing allowance. In addition, the Tool of Trade will be paid, since the position requires the incumbent to travel.

The appointment will be made in accordance with SANParks’ Employment Equity Plan.

Salary

R501 165.00 – R701 610.00 Annual Package
