Water Quiz Questions School Pupils

PHALABORWA – Kingfisher Private School”s quiz team swept the opposition during the high school division of the Kruger National Park(KNP)/Foskor Water Week Quiz in the town hall this week (Tuesday March 20, 2007). The team of three pupils from this school competed against 11 other schools from the area.

Before the quiz started, quizmaster Dr Thomas Gyedu-Ababio – who is the KNP”s river research manager – pleaded with the 120 pupils and teachers that packed the Phalaborwa Town Hall that attitude can change your life.

“We need to change our attitude and conserve water as this resource is precious to a place like the Kruger as it is important for biodiversity,” he explained.

The team from Nkateko High School came second and a team from Lebeko High School finished third.
Questions asked during the quiz included a number of water and biodiversity related issues, in order to raise pupils” awareness of the importance of water, especially in a protected area like the KNP.

The other schools that participated in the quiz included: Majeje High School, Baranuka Secondary School, Meridian High School, Sebala Makgolo High School, Lepato M High School, Vuxeni High School, Masaswivona High School and Makikele High School.

Prizes for the top three schools included accommodation and a visit to the KNP, a bicycle and shopping vouchers.
The high school division followed close on the heels of the primary school division of the quiz, which took place on Monday March 19, 2007.

During this competition, Meridian Primary School emerged as winners against eight other schools. These included: Risenga Primary School, Lulekani Primary School, Fauna Park Primary School, Xithlangu Primary School, Kingfisher Primary School, Mashavela Primary School and Shipamele Primary School.
The second place went to Fauna Park Primary School and the third place went to Kingfisher Primary School.
The KNP”s river conservation team hold Water Week events every year.
