All hiking trails in Tsitsikamma are closed and hikers escorted to respective huts. When our Senior Section Ranger (Brent Whittington) went to inspect the Grootriver (Natures Valley) at 3am this morning, the river was fairly low but by 6am the camp in Natures Valley was flooded.
The Grootriver mouth in Natures Valley (Tsitsikamma) is breached, according to Whittington.
Both river mouths in the Wilderness section of the Park are open (Touws River and Swartvlei) and “water is expected to subside as the rainfall decreases as per weather forecast” according to Jonathan Britton (Senior Ranger in Wilderness).
Rainfall in the Garden Route Region is expected to amount to 13, 5 mm (from 11:00- 17:00) and 11,9mm (between 17:00 and 23:00).
