One of the United Kingdom (UK) based VHR members, Val Stephens, wanted to add her effort to the melting pot. She came up with an ingenious idea to host a coffee morning at her home as a fundraising intitiave. The monies raised was earmarked towards one of the SANParks Honorary Ranger projects. The project was sanctioned and given the go-ahead.
This was history in the making as it was the first time that the SANParks Honorary Rangers banner flew high in the UK, with Val as our first ambassador.
Val”s guests were very interested in the various VHR”s fundraising projects. The coffee morning offered the perfect platform to educate a part of the international community about SANParks” function and the fact that this comprised of more than the conservation of fauna and flora, but included the upliftment of neighbouring communities and the youth.
The fact that this was the first time that SANParks HR”s were able to conduct an educational drive and a fundraiser in the UK, is what makes the Virtual Region so remarkable. It is this commitment and unbridled enthusiasm of the SANParks Honorary Rangers to make a difference that makes the Virtual region so vibrant.
