The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) and South African National Parks (SANParks) will celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity under the...
A formal Joint Operating Committee (JOC) was established this morning for the Tsitsikamma Fire and led by MTO (Mountain to Ocean).
Regarding the Otter trail hike: Visibility is very difficult around the Otter Trail (Day 2) around Scott hut. So yesterday, the 8 hikers were evacuated successfully, please see the attached picture of the hikers with SANParks rangers. They slept in the Park (Storms River Rest Camp) and continued to walk the trail starting this morning from Day 3- Oakhurst. They will continue Day 4 and 5 of the trail.
They were escorted by rangers out yesterday. The Park will make a decision later today whether to close Day 2 of the Otter trail or not but we are not cancelling bookings as yet. The JOC will also need to advise on when Day 2 can be declared safe to open after the fire.
Our teams are also on the fireline with MTO and other stakeholders where some areas of the fire are contained. MTO provides daily updates on the status of the fire.
