Take action, inspire change and make every day in the Garden Route a Mandela Day

“It is one day that is set aside to give back to communities” says General Manager of the Garden Route National Park, Jill Bunding-Venter. “Although SANParks has numerous outreach initiatives through its biodiversity social programmes (Working for Programmes) and facilitates interactive participation with stakeholders through at least three (3) forums, Mandela Day presents an opportunity to do something different” she adds. This means partnering with corporates such is the case with the event held in conjunction with the Featherbed Company. “We get to take 60 children from Sinethemba, Hospice and HERO Youth groups around the world-renowned Knysna lagoon on a Paddle Cruise, compliments to the Featherbed Company.”

SANParks staff will also paint a creche in Hornlee led by Knysna Municipality. At least four schools in Tsitsikamma will get a facelift and trees will be planted in Wilderness to the benefit of communities in and around the Park.
