On 21 January 2024, a mugging incident was reported in the Camps Bay/Kasteelpoort area where two individuals mugged hikers.
Details provided by the victims are that two suspected robbers stole cell phones, a watch, cash and jewellery. During the robbery, one suspect was pepper-sprayed whilst trying to flee and fell. This fall seems to have led to the death of the suspect.
The matter has been referred to the South African Police Service in the context of the successful partnership between SANParks, SAPS and the City of Cape Town to combat criminal activities in Table Mountain National Park.
