South African National Parks (SANParks) was made aware of a robbery incident involving visitors which occurred on The Glen trail in Table Mountain National Park, on 18 January 2026, when the complainants reported the incident to rangers stationed in the area.
The couple was confronted by armed suspects while hiking, assaulted, and robbed of personal belongings. The suspects fled the scene towards Kloofnek. Both victims sustained injuries and received medical attention.
The incident was promptly reported, and SANParks immediately activated its response protocols, where rangers commenced a search for suspects but were unsuccesful.
A SANParks official accompanied the victims to the South African Police Service (SAPS) to assist with opening a criminal case. SAPS is leading the investigation, with SANParks providing ongoing support.
SANParks condemns all acts of violence in the strongest terms and reassures the public that it remains fully committed to working with SAPS and other stakeholders to prevent criminal activity and enhance safety in Table Mountain National Park.
