Public warned to avoid touching beached whale

Our rangers and scientists are hard at work. Jonathan Britton, SANParks marine ranger for the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park, said “the plan for tomorrow is to bury the whale. We are awaiting for low tide.”

Our scientists working with Cape Nature and the Knysna Municipality”s disaster management division could not identify the type (species) of the whale because it is so badly decomposed.

The public is warned not to touch the whale as the cause of its death is still unknown.
