The Millwood Exit Area controlled burn in phases 1 & 2 started yesterday, 27 February 2018 at 09:00am. Approximately 160 hectares will be burnt during the exercise. Partners in the project include the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association (SCFPA), SANParks, Working on Fire (WoF) and MTO or Cape Pine. The SCFPA will execute the burn on behalf of SANParks for a vegetation that is between 10 to 15 years old. WoF Air Support will be placed on standby.
SANParks’ Len du Plessis has requested visitors to the Park to exercise caution as the burn will generate a lot of smoke.
The controlled burn aims to stimulate the ecology of the area and also to limit the spread of wild fires in the area.
Partners decided to execute depending on the predicted weather.
