Media Release: Tokai Cecilia Management Framework enters phase two of the review process

South African National Parks (SANParks) today convened the start of the second phase of the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) Tokai Cecilia Management Framework (TCMF) review process, focused on the workshop for issues, concerns and proposals of the TCMF.

This phase is informed by knowledge gathered in the first phase of the TCMF review which took place during the period of 25 May 2021 to 09 July 2021. Over the next two months, the task teams established to ensure that themes identified in submissions made in phase one are elaborated upon for presentation to the SANParks Executive by the end of November 2021.

Task teams include Communications, Fire Management, Safety and Security, Development Opportunity, Participative Arts and Cultural, Ecosystem Management and Recreation.

According to Dr. Howard Hendricks, TCFM Facilitator, the first phase has taught us that there is a shared will to do the best for these extraordinarily environmentally diverse and valued areas, for the people who love and use them, and for the global heritage and legacy of our beloved mountain.

The TCMF review process aims to put the future management of the Tokai and Cecilia areas in place as vital management sections of TMNP. SANParks was formally assigned management of the state-owned Tokai and Cecilia plantations as part of the TMNP on 11 February 2005 by the then Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry as vital management sections of TMNP.

SANParks is encouraged by the commitment demonstrated by its 400 stakeholders who continue to participate in this process.
