Media Release: Teen boy drowns at Letaba swimming pool

“Our heartfelt condolences and sympathy go out to the family and friends of the victim of the incident; and would like to take this opportunity to advise parents not to allow children to swim without elderly supervision in the pools especially with the heat wave that is sweeping through the country at the moment,” said William Mabasa, KNP”s GM: Communications & Marketing.

Camp management was alerted by one of the camp supervisors that there was a child who drowned in the pool that afternoon. Upon arrival, half of the group at the swimming pool area had their T-shirts in hand, waving them to provide air to the deceased who was lying on the pavement near the pool. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was immediately performed but the boy would not respond. Before the local doctor arrived; a tourist who is a medical doctor was rushed to the scene, checked the boy and confirmed that the boy was already late.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrived on the scene the same day to investigate the incident and recover the body.
