Against a background of only 108 of state owned entities and parastatals receiving clean audits from the Office of the Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) in the last financial year, South African National Parks (SANParks) has once more received a clean audit status.
According to the AGSA statement public entities fared the best with continuous improvement year on year, increasing their total from 82 to 108 in 2015-16.
SANParks an entity of the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), is amongst the 39 public entities that were bestowed with the sought after AGSA Clean Audit award for the 2015/16 financial reporting cycle.
A clean audit award is bestowed on candidates whose financial statements are free from material misstatements (in other words, a financially unqualified audit opinion) and there are no material findings on reporting on performance objectives or non-compliance with legislation.
In his response to the award, CEO of SANParks, Mr Fundisile Mketeni said we are delighted by this recognition and it must be noted this was made possible by dedication, paying attention to detail and hard work in perfecting good governance coupled with well-crafted systems and processes on all our operations.
Mr Rajesh Mahabeer, CFO of SANParks said, “SANParks continues to improve its internal controls and systems processes and the unqualified audit reports that the organization has received since the dawn of democracy in 1994 bear evident to the fact.”
In conclusion, Mahabeer echoed the Auditor General”s sentiments of committing SANParks to best practices and strengthening financial and performance management. “In support of this goal, SANParks is way ahead in planning for the 2017-18 reporting cycle and we are encouraged by this AGSA recognition to perfect our strategic obligations and put the organization up with the best in the South Africa public sector”.
