SANParks’ Northern Region Parks (Mapungubwe National Park & World Heritage Site outside of Musina, Marakele National Park situated outside of Thabazimbi and Golden Gate Highlands National Park situated in the eastern Free State) were well represented during the organisation’s Kudu Awards held Thursday night, 23 November at the CSIR Convention Centre in Pretoria.
The Kudu Awards take place in SANParks as a way of recognising stakeholders that are doing their bit to contribute towards conservation of South Africa’s priceless biodiversity. Coupled with this is the CEO Awards aimed at recognising those employees that go the extra mile at their respective parks thereby making SANParks as a system of national parks achieve in its objectives and Further encourage a culture of excellence and ensure a continuous quality service to all stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, the CEO of SANParks Mr Fundisile Mketeni said “This year was profoundly competitive and clearly a challenging season for the organisation but I am glad that we have a calibre of employees that we can show off to the world for the good work that they are doing”.
Ms Tintswalo Mhlongo, Hospitality Services Manager at Mapungubwe National Park walked away with the popular leadership award “Tintswalo is a very calm individual with very solid leadership character. In the past financial year Mapungubwe saw tourism sales soar and the motivation amongst the team sky rocketing under her guidance and therefore deserving of the award” said Conrad Strauss, Park Manager at Mapungubwe who could not hold his excitement as two of the four awards in the region went to his Park.
Pitius Chauke also from Mapungubwe was honoured in the category Best Customer service whilst Tshokolo Molefe and Lenie Brink from Marakele and Golden Gate Highlands National Park respectively both walked away with awards in the Excellent Performance category.
