The Tsitsikamma region of the SANParks Honorary Rangers received an award for this year”s Community Contribution to Conservation, for the growth in membership of both existing and new applicants, the numbers of previously disadvantaged members (pro-transformation), an increase in service delivery and inputs in the Park as well as self-development and environmental education in general.
The second award received was the Community Contribution to Conservation award which was presented to the SANParks Honorary Rangers SASOL birding project. SASOL birding was awarded for its sponsorship of a variety of bird-related projects within our National Parks. Sasol is one of the key role players in the conservation of indigenous wildlife, and has partnered with the SANParks Honorary Rangers to support bird conservation through the SANParks Honorary Ranger birding weekends, which allow birders to contribute to “citizen science” by recording the threatened birds through the various weekends hosted.
Mr. Louis Lemmer, National Chairperson of the SANParks Honorary Rangers, congratulated the two winners on their awards received. As volunteers committed to conservation in support of South African National Parks, we are achieving some excellent results through the dedicated and passionate service of our members, and good solid working relations with South African National Parks. We are looking forward to making an even bigger contribution to conservation in the future.
Unlike many fundraising initiatives the SANParks Honorary Rangers utilise 100% of all money raised for the purpose for which they were donated. No public money is used to run activities and every cent donated bythe public for counter poaching or other projects identified is used to fund the actual projects or counter poaching needs in our national parks. We are a registered public benefit and non-profit organisation.
