Media Release: SANParks Head Office Closed After Staff Member Tested Positive for COVID-19

South African National Parks (SANParks) head office in Groenkloof, Pretoria had to close its doors today (Monday, 29 June 2020) as a precautionary measure after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus).

SANParks Acting Head of Communications, Rey Thakhuli confirmed the closure and said the offices are expected to reopen on Thursday, 2 July 2020. “This means no one will be allowed in the building before Thursday, 2 July as a deep cleaning exercise is now underway”. Thakhuli said guests who have been making amendments to their bookings are requested to expect delays as the call centre staff will not be in the office until the mandatory period of decontamination is concluded. The call centre staff will, however, work remotely and continue to be available by email.

He further reiterated that all precautionary measures, social distancing rules and additional sanitation are in place at all our facilities and we will continue to vigilantly implement these to protect both our staff and guests to our facilities.

SANParks, CEO Fundisile Mketeni wished the affected colleague a speedy recovery. “I would like to encourage any of the staff members or their immediate families feeling sick to utilise our 24 hour COVID-19 Counselling services. We are working hard in ensuring that staff and guests are safe at all times”.
