Media Release: SANParks dispute with former Famous Brands franchisee

South African National Parks (SANParks) said in a statement, the three restaurants in Satara, Letaba & Olifants camps in the Kruger National Park formerly franchised by Famous Brands (Mugg n Bean & Debonairs) are managed by a concessionaire. Due to a dispute between Famous Brands and Ringgold (the Franchisee) and the resulting termination of the agreement between the parties, Ringgold has lost the right to use Famous Brand trademarks in its stores.

According to SANParks, Acting Head of Communications, William Mabasa, SANParks is not party to the issue of the said restaurants between Ringgold and Famous Brands. “SANParks has its own dispute with Ringgold due to its inability to meet its obligations as a concessionaire and the matter is scheduled for arbitration in July 2017. The two matters are therefore parallel processes.”

Mabasa further stated that SANParks has not acceded to any of Ringgold”s future plans for these stores. “This includes changes in the menus and other offerings planned.”

He said should the need arise, SANParks will not hesitate to put temporary substitutes, particularly during peak time. “SANParks sincerely apologises for the inconvenience and hopes that your stay in the park will be a memorable one as always,” concluded Mabasa.
