This according to Paul Daphne, Acting Head of Communications at South African National Park, who said this award will be presented to conservation/environmental journalists/media entities that have been considered to have conducted their reporting in a socially responsible manner and have also given extensive and balanced reporting on conservation related matters.
“It is for this reason that we need to celebrate these achievements by paying tribute to those who worked effortlessly in putting South Africa”s biodiversity and conservation in the forefront of society through the use of the media. Hence we would like to call upon journalists/reporters (print, broadcast as well as web based) to also send through the work done in 2011 (January to December 2011) and stand a chance to be awarded with the covert environment award.”
According to Daphne the media award consists of two sets of categories: Best Journalist (Across of All Media) and Best Publication/Programme/Website/Documentary.
He said the Awards will also be made in three other categories, viz:- Corporate Contribution to Conservation Award, Community Contribution to Conservation and Environmental Education/Capacity Building Award. “This is to recognize and reward individuals/companies/organizations and communities that continue to contribute to programmes that further the conservation of our biodiversity and cultural heritage.”
The awards sponsored by First National Bank (FNB) will be hosted for the fifth time this year and aims to recognize external stakeholders for their contributions and efforts in making South African National Parks the custodian of choice for the national parks system in South Africa.
We hereby invite all members of the public to submit their nominations of individuals, groups or companies involved in conservation within the above categories for the Kudu Award by 19 July 2012. The nomination forms are available www.sanparks.org.
The awards winners will be announced at a gala dinner hosted by SANParks CEO and the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs in Gauteng in November.
