In his opening remarks, Mavuso Msimang the Chief Executive of SANP told the audience that they are about to witness a milestone in the history of the organisation. He reiterated that the objective of SANP in commercialising some of its operations is to focus the organisation on its core business of nature conservation, while allowing the private sector to become involved with tourism activities.
The adjudication process, which was conducted by the IFC (International Finance Corporation) the private sector arm of the World Bank, used a sophisticated computer model to determine the successful bidders. All bidders, winners and losers, expressed satisfaction with the transparent and professional way the bid process was handled.

The SANP Board will ratify these winning bids on 29 November 2000.
The bid date for the sites in the South African side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (former Kalahari Gemsbok National Park) and the Brandwag Hotel and Chalets in the Golden Gate National Park will be announced later.
