Media Release: Quota System To Be Implemented During South African National Parks Week 2020

South African National Parks (SANParks), in partnership with First National Bank (FNB) and Total South Africa, is hosting the 15th annual SA National Parks Week from 16 to 20 November 2020. The public should note that some National Parks will implement daily quotas at the gates throughout the week.

These are namely:

  • Augrabies Falls National Park
  • Bontebok National Park.
  • Kruger National Park
  • Table Mountain National Park

Namaqua National Park and the Boulders section of Table Mountain National Park will not be offering free access during the week.

Quota limits per park are as follows:

Kruger National Park:

Gate 0 – 2 hours
after gate opens
2 – 4 hours
after gate opens
4+ hours
after gate opens
Crocodile Bridge Gate 320 192 192

Table Mountain National Park:

Section Quota
Boulders Penguin Colony and Aerial Cableway Not included in SA National Parks Week
Cape of Good Hope Section Total capacity of 2500.
No more than 500 people will be allowed to gather at any of the open-air destinations such as picnic sites at any given time i.e. 500max people at Buffelsbay, 500max people at Bordjiesrif etc.
Oudekraal Picnic and Braai Area 250 guests max at any given time
Newlands Picnic and Braai Area 350 guests max at any given time
Tokai Picnic and Braai Area 250 guests max at any given time
Silvermine Picnic and Braai Area No quota but the gate is closed once the pay-point parking area has reached capacity

Bontebok National Park

Gate Quota
Main Entrance 120 guests per day

Augrabies Falls National Park

Gate Quota
Augrabies Falls Main Entrance Gate (to View the Falls) 250 guests per day
Augrabies Falls Day Visitor's Area (Swimming & Braai area) 50 guests per day

Visitors are also requested to note that the Kruger National Park, Addo Elephant, Karoo National Park and Kgalagadi Transfrontier will not extend the free access to the weekend, most of the other national parks will extend to the weekend. It is important to also observe all necessary safety protocols like wearing of face masks, keeping social distance between each other and continuously washing your hands.
