Media Release: Powerade confirmed as main sponsor for the 2017 Marakele marathon

The countdown to the 2017 Marakele marathon has begun and the good news is, there is a new sponsor on board. Powerade, a brand under Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) has been confirmed as this year”s main sponsor of the event.

The sponsorship is part of CCBSA”s ongoing commitment to supporting and bringing about social changes in the communities in which it operates. The marathon which is in its 7th year and also a comrades” qualifier will take place on Saturday, 8th April 2017 in the Marakele National Park. Other Sponsors include Siemens Healthineers, Best Med, Shereno Printers and Hlanganani Contractors.

Ernest Zungu, Channel Development Specialist for CCBSA explains, “CCBSA is committed to creating strong communities by promoting active lifestyles. We are proud to be associated with an event that shares these same values”

Mr Mphadeni Nthangeni, host of the marathon and Marakele Park Manager had this to say “last year we pulled very hard as we had no main sponsor for this race which draws people to the park, but we are grateful that this year is different and we shall forever be appreciative to all who have sponsored to make the 2017 race a success.”

He further added that “although this started as an event for the people of Thabazimbi, it has since grown to be one of the premier sporting events in the Limpopo province and steadily gaining momentum with athletes from Gauteng and the North West Provinces and we are also seeing household names take part in the race”.

The race has three different categories which are the 10km, 21km and 42km (comrades” qualifier) and also a 5km fun race which is suitable for the whole family.
