The jewel of the Free State, Golden Gate Highlands National Park (GGHNP) has this month welcomed Mr Mzwandile “Max” Fihla as the new Park Manager. This comes after a lengthy period that the park operated without a permanent Park Manager.
Announcing this appointment, the General Manager of the Northern Region Mr Lombard Shirindzi regarded this as one important step towards attaining his key objectives as the overseer of this magnificent National Park. “When I joined the region I made it a priority to fill in key positions and with this appointment I believe we are on the right track as a region”.
Born and bred in King Williams Town in the Eastern Cape, Mr Fihla was involved with the Chris Hani Development Agency where he worked as a Senior Manager: Projects responsible for strengthening institutional arrangements and organising fund for up and coming farmers and making sure that the regional irrigation schemes are well maintained. Over and above, his vast experience in project management for Kellogs foundation for the SADC region will immensely contribute to the development of GGHNP
“We believe that Mr Fihla”s knowledge, experience and expertise will help to take Golden Gate to greater heights” Shirindzi said and was quick to add that “Victor Mokoena, who acted for some time has done well in building the team and stakeholder confidence in order to turn the park around, as a result, Golden Gate achieved Park of the year at the Northern Region Awards amongst other accolades. We shall forever be appreciative of how he rose to the occasion when the organisation needed him”.
In his own words, Mr Fihla feels “very honoured to be joining the Golden Gate team as the Park Manager and will do everything to ensure that we remain the jewel of the Free State in every way.”
