Media Release: Observe the rules and regulations during festive season
“It has become common for Protection Services to receive feedback from concerned tourists who report on rule breakers who are speeding on the roads, some protruding or climbing out of their vehicles; something which we wish could be undone. People should enjoy the activities that are on offer, however we would like to appeal to all visitors to adhere to the rules and regulations of the park so that everyone can enjoy their holiday”, indicated the HOD: Public Relations, William Mabasa.
During this period, the KNP law enforcement officers will also amongst other things, with effect from Friday, 9 December 2011, conduct roadblocks at strategic places all over the park. General law enforcement on vehicles that are not roadworthy or do not meet the road requirement standards, visibility on the vulnerable public areas such as receptions, will also form part of this campaign. There will also be strict spot checks at the entrance gates with emphasis on adherence to permit requirements and strictly no alcohol in public areas in the Park.
“Although the traffic volumes are not yet high, the highest speed recorded in November 2011 was 117km, with 181 speeding fines issued. “Certainly the most annoying developing trend around this time is of people alighting or protruding out of their vehicles, which is not only against the regulations, but also makes for unpleasant game viewing by others. We would like to encourage guests who observe people disobeying the rules and regulations of the park to report their observations to the 24-hour KNP Emergency Call Centre on (013) 735 4325“, continued Mabasa.
To avoid late travelling, visitors are also advised to plan their journey properly and to adhere to the gate times as recorded on maps, permits and signs at the camps.
