Media Release: Newly appointed contractor wins award

Roman started in July 2014 and made an immediate impression with his determination to provide excellent field work with minimum experience. Roman started at the projects with an old 2×4 short-wheel base vehicle and within this short work period has recently acquired a second vehicle, a long-wheel base 4×4 vehicle with which he transports his new team.

Roman made a remarkable impression with the South African National Parks (SANParks) Biodiversity Social Projects Management staff with his last field inspection as he had all his paperwork in order, his teams were organized and hard-working and the in-field assessments on rehabilitation work completed were very productive.

The Best Worker of the year was awarded to Working for Water Chainsaw Operator, Hendrik Kordom. Kordom joined the Expanded Public Works Programme implemented by SANParks Biodiversity Social Projects in 2008 as a General Worker for contractor Maria Steenkamp.

The supervisor of the team, Davon Tiemie says “We nominated Hendrik as he always does all the maintenance needed; he is hard-working and an absolute mainstay”. The contractor Steenkamp added “Hendrik has so much initiative, if you”re still thinking about doing something, he”s already done it. Always one step ahead”.

Kordom proudly yet humbly accepted his award and stated “I am very happy; I try to show the others (fellow colleagues) to always go further. I”m very grateful to work with my team and they provide me with the boldness and confidence needed. Where they need me, I”ll always try and be of assistance no matter what”.
