Media Release: Marakele partners with the local college to spread world environment day message

South African National Parks (SANParks)”s Marakele National Park, outside of Thabazimbi in Limpopo has today visited the local Waterberg Technical and Vocational Educational Training (TVET) to spread the world environment day message in a form of an exhibition.

The World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, and was celebrated for the first time on June 5, 1974 and every year since. This year it is being celebrated under the theme “”Connecting People to Nature”.

The event raises global awareness to take positive action to protect nature and the planet Earth. It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and celebrated worldwide with the aims to protect our unique and life sustaining environment as well as to raise global awareness of the collectively termed Illegal “Wildlife Trade” affecting our fauna and flora.

Marakele chose to partner with the TVET College as it has just opened in the area and therefore felt this is a perfect opportunity to educate the students about the environment and the role played by SANParks in connecting people to nature.

The People and Conservation team from the Park, put up an exhibition and allowed students and everybody to come and learn about the environment and how they can assist in ensuring that the environment is protected.
