A section of one of the key tourist roads in the Kruger National Park (KNP), the H1-2 between Skukuza Rest Camp and Tshokwane Picnic Site will be closed for necessary maintenance on Wednesday May 7, 2008 by the park’s Technical Services.
Desperately needed maintenance will be done on the low water crossing of the Sand River on this day and the road will be closed between the Skukuza Airport turn-off and the Sand River SANDF base turn-off, a few hundred metres to the north of the Sand River.
Visitors to the KNP who have planned to drive north from Skukuza on that day have other options. They can drive on the Skukuza – Lower Sabie road (H4-1), then turn left and drive over the Sabie River High Water Bridge (H12) and then turn right onto the Skukuza – Tshokwane road (H1-2) and proceed with their journey. Alternatively, if they have enough time, they can drive all the way to Lower Sabie Rest Camp on the H4-1 and then take the H10 to Tshokwane.
If they are driving south, they can turn onto the H12 and then head for either Skukuza Rest Camp or Lower Sabie Rest Camp on the H4-1. Alternatively, they can turn right onto the H10 just after Tshokwane Picnic Site and drive towards Lower Sabie.
The road will be reopened on Thursday May 8, 2008.
