The awards evening is hosted annually to celebrate the top individual and team achievements from the four national parks in the area, namely Addo Elephant, Mountain Zebra, Camdeboo and Karoo National Parks, and is a precursor to the annual South African National Parks (SANParks) Kudu Awards.
A number of factors led to the camp”s success last year, namely: Visitor numbers increased by 9.45%. Chalet occupancy saw an increase of 7.80% while camping occupancy increased by 7.50%. There was also an increase in game drive sales of a staggering 27.97%. In June last year the Park received a Certificate of Excellence from the international travel site, TripAdvisor. This award was based on the quality of reviews and opinions earned on Travel Advisor over the past year and signified that the Park had consistently earned outstanding feedback from TripAdvisor travellers who have visited this beautiful part of the Karoo. The rest camp is well-known to visitors travelling between Gauteng and the Western Cape, who overnight here regularly along the route. It is also a firm favourite with South Africans and international visitors alike for its undeniable beauty and tranquillity.
The second award which went Karoo”s way was that of Best Performing Reception. The team”s recipe of friendly faces, warm welcomes and informal yet informative conversation seems to be what won them this accolade. They are known to be efficient in whatever they do, garnering many compliments from guests along the way. Hospitality Services Manager, Brian van der Westhuizen, says “A large portion of the increase in game drives can be attributed to the Reception team through their constant efforts to sell activities to guests. They excel in their duties and support and assist each other to ensure that services of international standards are upheld at all times. They are truly deserving of this award.”
Karoo National Park”s Hospitality Services Manager, Brian van der Westhuizen, gladly received the awards for Best Performing Camp and Best Performing Reception from Regional Manager, Dries Engelbrecht.
