Free entry to most of the 19 South African National Parks will this year take place between 12 and 16 September. As in previous years, the campaign will again be run under the established theme, ‘Know your national parks’.
Together with partners Total Energies Marketing South Africa and FNB, SANParks makes this opportunity available to all South African citizens during Tourism month. The free access is meant to cultivate a sense of pride in local residents in South Africa’s natural, cultural and historical heritage. They can do this by experiencing and enjoying all that the parks have to offer. It should be noted that free access does not include accommodation or paid-for activities.
There is a lot happening to keep day visitors to Garden Route National Park busy – with Tsitsikamma offering guided walks, discounts at some concessions as well as self-guided activities. Knysna will be also offering some guided activities as well as a buy one get one special for the Kayaks. Wilderness is open for any self-guided activities and will be offering the first 6 people who book canoes a free hour. Be sure not to miss out on this exciting week.
Guided and discounted activities need to be booked at the respective camp receptions before arrival at the camp. The free access is limited to South African Citizens and people older than 16 need to show their RSA ID for access.
Other parks nearby that are also participating in the campaign include Addo Elephant (near Port Elizabeth), Mountain Zebra (near Cradock) and Camdeboo National Parks (outside Graaff Reinet). Garden Route will be extending their free entry to 17 and 18 September which means that all local citizens are welcome at no cost over the weekend.
