The feature element of the SA National Parks Week campaign is the free access granted to all South African day visitors carrying their official Identity Documents and young persons under the age of 16 will be allowed free access without proof of identity. It should be noted that the free access to the parks will not include accommodation and/or any other commercial activities in the park such as guided safaris in vehicles or guided walks, etc. for which you would need to present your MyActivity Card.
Grab the opportunity that SA National Parks Week provides to get out and explore your province with four western provincial parks closest to you, all free of charge namely Bontebok just past the town of Swellendam, Table Mountain right on your doorstep, Tankwa-Karoo in between the majestic towns of Ceres and Calvinia and West Coast situated on the Langebaan Lagoon – for FREE! These Parks have extended the offer of free entry to include Saturday the 19th* of September with some including the Sunday. Here are some ideas of what to see and do in the aforementioned Parks during SA National Parks Week:
In celebration of SA National Parks Week, Cape Point has some amazing offers available during the week for South African citizens. During this week exclusive to South African ID holders, the Flying Dutchman funicular will offer a family pass for only R100 which will consist of: 2 x adult return tickets and 2 x scholar return tickets – valued at R165,while an individual ticket will sell for R30 (normal price R55).
Remember to say “double up” at the Two Oceans Restaurant when ordering a plate of sushi and get the second one for half price. The same rule applies at the food shop when saying the words “double up” when ordering a pizza – this will allow you a second one for half price.
For that something extra you can get a free laminated Cape Point placemat set with purchases over R300, and kids get free face painting at the top and bottom funicular stations on the Saturday during SANParks week (19 September)!
West Coast, close to Langebaan – the Park is currently experiencing its best flower season yet. Come and make the most of the Postberg section of the Park, which is only open during August and September every year. Have something to eat at Geelbek Restaurant and then go off to experience the spectacular colourful carpets of wild flowers. Be sure to explore the entire park including the Seeberg Lookout Point, Mooimaak (by bicycle only) and Postberg.
To save time in the queue at the gates, be sure to download the gate registration form and fill it out before arriving; use both the R27 and Langebaan gates as this will ease congestion at either one gate; head to the park early in the morning, especially if travelling on a weekend or sunny day as these are the more popular days for visitors.
Bontebok, just outside Swellendam – Take a drive through the Park and spot some game; unwind alongside the Breede River; or take a walk through hills of Aloe.
Please remember to bring along your green bar-coded SA ID to gain free entry into any of the Parks.
