South African National Parks (SANParks) has honoured Lenie Brink, recently retired Housekeeping Manager at the Golden Gate Hotel, an employee who served the organisation with pride for almost three decades at an event held at CSIR Convention Centre in Gauteng.
Lenie better known as MmaBasotho for her fluency in Sesotho could not hold back her tears as her name was called out as one of the recipients of excellent performance award during the CEO award She went on retirement at the end of October 2017 and this award came just at the right time for her as she ends her long career on a very high note.
In the time that she was with the organisation MmaBasotho was very instrumental in the effective running of the Golden Gate Hotel and always ensured that she develops her staff members and equip them to be not only better employees but tirelessly encouraged them to lead a healthy social life. She had to learn to speak Sesotho over the years as she realised that communication with most of her staff and co-workers was hampered by language barriers.
Her fluency in sesothoand passion for her work contributed enormously to the development many employees at Golden Gate. Mme Lenie is really humbled by the levels of development that she leaves the employees with, way better than when they first joined the organisation since most of them were part of the ABET programme and other developmental programmes under her leadership and now know how to read and write.
According to Mzwandile Fihla, Park Manager at Golden Gate “Excellent performance is characterised by a number of attributes such as ability to build team spirit amongst team members and understanding of the vision of the organisation amongst other. Lenie had them all and she made it easy to work with her”.
Still bursting in the light of the moment, Mme Lenie could not contain her excitement on the award “I have really given the organisation my all and I am so happy that even though this came after I went on retirement, it will put a smile on my face for many years to come. I believe this will also serve to motivate other employees to know that hard work pays off” she was quick to say she will be taking it easy during her retirement.
