Kruger National Park Strengthens its Readiness for the Upcoming Fire Season

Fourteen members from the surrounding community who had been contracted to help cut grass as part of normal park management practice were caught up in the fire. Despite efforts from SANParks firefighters, the fourteen people could not be rescued and three SANParks rangers who were taking part in the rescue efforts also died. The fire is still raging.
SANParks will initiate an official enquiry into the circumstances of the fire.
No tourists were reported missing or injured.
Details on the situation will be released as more information becomes available.
A press conference is scheduled to take place at Skukuza at 15:00 this afternoon.
