Media Release: Camdeboo National Park teaches about ecology
South African National Parks” (SANParks) BSP has three main goals; namely poverty relief, community upliftment and nature conservation. In other words, these projects aim to empower people through nature conservation initiatives.
The group consisted of four teams from the Working for Water project and three from the Working on Land project.
Working for Water consists of members of the local community who are developed into independent contractors with their own businesses in plant eradication. These contracting teams play an important role in water release, as the alien plants they clear often use up a lot of our water resources. As with Working for Water, Working for Land are members of the community who are developed into contractors, but here they specialise in erosion control and the rehabilitation of degraded land.
The day-long workshop at the Camdeboo Environmental Education Centre did not only consist of classroom-style education, but involved a host of practical exercises and ecological games too.
