Judging by statistics just in about visitor numbers to Camdeboo National Park over the festive season, it would be safe to assume that the Park”s popularity is well on the rise.
Gate entries between 16 December and 8 January this year increased by nine percent over the same period last year – from 5 946 two years ago to 6 477 recently. There was also a 21% increase in the number of overnight visitors, with 690 guests making use of the Nqweba camp site and Lakeview tented camp, compared to 569 two years ago. Lakeview experienced a massive 94% occupancy rate, proving that the small, yet extremely special camp is highly sought after. The camping occupancy was 83%.
Park Manager, Nick de Goede, says “It was wonderful having such high numbers of guests visiting the Park, especially with the extremely high temperatures Graaff-Reinet experienced over the festive season. A large number of our guests were from Gauteng – 2 328. Camdeboo National Park is ideally situated along their route down to the coast and allows them a quick stop over, either on their way there or back home.”
“The staff members on duty over the festive season were wonderful – they ensured that everything ran smoothly and without incident. We appreciate that they had to give up precious time with friends and family during this time, but they are assured of a well-deserved break now that the rest of us have returned to work,” concluded de Goede.
