Background information: The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, which combines South Africa”s Kalahari Gemsbok National Park and Botswana”s Gemsbok National Park into a single ecological unit, was formally established on 7 April 1999 through an agreement signed by then President Mandela and President Mogae. The South African Parliament ratified the agreement on 22 September 1999. Under the agreement, South Africa and Botswana will set a joint management committee to run the KTP, the first transfrontier in Southern Africa.
