Access to the Malelane Gate in the south of the Kruger National Park will be closed temporarily on Tuesday, 22 September 2026 due to a planned march by a group of unemployed youth from the Nkomazi area bordering the Park.

According to information received, the organisers have indicated that the march is intended to be a peaceful protest aimed at raising concerns affecting unemployed youth in the area. Attempts to meet the organisers before the planned march were unsuccessful.

As a precautionary measure, and in the interest of ensuring the safety of guests, staff and protesters, Malelane Gate will be temporarily closed from 08:00 on 22 September 2026 until such time that all protesters have vacated the affected area and normal operations can safely resume.

Guests, suppliers, staff and all other individuals requiring access to or from the Kruger National Park via Malelane Gate are strongly advised to make alternative travel arrangements and utilise other entry gates where possible during the period of the protest.

SANParks will provide updates should there be any changes to the situation or if the gate is reopened earlier than anticipated.
