A joint operation between SANParks Rangers, City of Cape Town Law Enforcement, and the Volunteer Safety Services resulted in two suspects getting searched and detained for outstanding cases. The suspects were located in the vicinity of Military Road.
Two robbery incidents have also been reported on the Pipe Track and Deer Park hiking trails in the Northern Section of Table Mountain National Park, resulting in one victim getting injured by five suspects. The suspects are at large and are still being pursued.
In another incident, a park visitor at Kloofnek on TMNP was apprehended by rangers and handed to the South African Police Service after he attempted to smash the windows of a car. The matter was reported to us via WhatsApp.
To continue its fight against crime, SANParks also started implementing a Safety and Awareness Campaign at Table Mountain National Park in collaboration with the South African Police Service, City of Cape Town Metro Police, SANParks Honorary Rangers, Working on Fire, SANParks Volunteers and neighbourhood watch groups.
Part of the safety and security strategy over the festive season includes raising awareness about preventative measures that can enhance the safety of all who visit this iconic national park.
